The University Libraries' Information Literacy Instruction Program

Mission Statement

St. John’s University Libraries’ Information Literacy program strives to provide students with the critical information literacy skills needed to responsibly navigate today’s complex information environment. Students will continuously develop these crucial skills to search for information, discover and evaluate sources, create new knowledge, and utilize their research findings both within their curricular studies as well as their personal and professional endeavors. We support student success through engaging, targeted, and impactful teaching strategies, the integration of new and emerging technologies, and curation and access to knowledge resources centered on the Libraries’ values of accessibility and inclusion. 

Vision Statement

The information literacy program cultivates critical competencies in research strategies, information evaluation, and critical thinking that empower students to become researchers, scholars, and leaders who can contribute to the production and dissemination of information in
