About the Dispute Resolution Society
The Dispute Resolution Society (DRS) is a student organization affiliated with The Hugh L. Carey Center for Dispute Resolution at St. John’s University School of Law. Established in 2007, DRS provides practical training in the evolving field of alternative dispute resolution. DRS specializes in negotiation, mediation, and arbitration through a variety of events, seminars, and competitions.
DRS hosts an annual intra-school negotiation competition open to all first-year law students. This competition allows students to develop relevant lawyering skills and gain valuable experience in the ADR field. Following the competition, students are invited to apply for membership in DRS and represent the organization in external competitions.
Students who are selected to join DRS will compete in one or more of the following potential competitions:
- ABA Mediation Competition
- ABA Negotiation Competition
- Cardozo CINEMA Negotiation Competition
- Fordham National Basketball Negotiation Competition
- Robert R. Merhige, Jr. National Environmental Negotiation Competition
- Thomas Jefferson School of Law National Sports Law Competition
- Tulane International Baseball Arbitration Competition
