Meal Plans

Law students may, but are not required to, enroll in a meal plan. St. John's Office of Residence Life administers meal plans for law students living in University housing. They can be reached at 718-990-2417. All other law students should review the commuter meal plan or contact 718-990-2000 for more information and to sign-up for a meal plan.

DePaul Townhouses

Located about one mile from campus on Union Turnpike at 147th Street, St. John's DePaul Townhouses are residences for full-time law students and graduate students. The Townhouses are occupied during the academic year, so we don't offer tours. But you can view photos of the apartments.

The priority seat and housing deposit deadline for students interested in DePaul Townhouse living is April 1, 2024.


The DePaul Townhouses offer a limited number of private single apartments. Most law students live in three-person apartments with separate bedrooms. There are two different kinds of singles within the apartment: 1) a deluxe single, with private access to its own full bathroom; 2) the other two bedrooms would share a full bathroom in a common area within the unit.

Each bedroom is furnished with a desk, twin bed, dresser, and closet. Each apartment contains one-two bathrooms, a full kitchen with gas stove, full-size refrigerator, sink, and cabinets. Each apartment has a living area complete with a dining table and chairs, couch/love-seat, coffee table, desk and chair. Apartments on the second and third floor of DePaul have access to balconies. The apartments also offer a stackable washer/dryer for residents’ convenience; and a dishwasher. Parking is available at DePaul for an additional fee through the Office of Public Safety. However, because the number of residents exceeds the number of parking spaces available, the Office of Public Safety holds a parking selection process shortly before continuing student move-in day that distributes parking spaces through a lottery process.


St. John’s makes every effort to have housing available to those students who will typically benefit most from the personal and community support of living in University Housing. First-year students greatly benefit from the campus and community support, and the convenience of University Housing can help students transition to the start of law school.

First-year entering law students can submit their housing deposit through April 10, 2024, for University Housing. The priority deposit date for first-year entering law students is April 1, 2024. All law students are still able to submit a housing deposit through April 10, 2024, and deposits are taken on a first-come, first-serve basis.  

There are approximately 70 bedroom spaces available in DePaul for law students. All law students are assigned to an apartment with residents of the same gender in single occupancy bedrooms. Students sign a contract to live in DePaul for the academic year (mid-August to mid-May). Summer housing is available for an additional cost in the Henley Road Complex.  

All students interested in joining the Post Selection Housing Placement Process can access the Form starting in late Spring 2024.


DePaul is managed by the Associate Director of Residence Life and a Graduate Assistant, both of whom live in the building and operate offices out of Donovan Hall. The Central Office of Residence Life is located on the Queens Campus in Donovan Hall, Room C-16. Residents contact the Department of Facilities Management for maintenance concerns and Information Technology for internet and television issues.

The DePaul Townhouses are owned and operated by St. John's University and are considered University Housing. Residents who reside at DePaul are expected to abide by the Student Handbook as well as, University Code of Conduct guidelines set by the Office of Residence Life and the Residence Life Handbook.

2024-2025 Rates

Academic Year 2024-2025 room rates for DePaul will be posted in late March 2024. Current academic year 2023-2024 room rates for DePaul are currently posted on the referenced web page.

Included in the cost of living in DePaul are all utilities, wireless internet, wireless TV (accessible in your apartment and anywhere on campus), individual apartment-controlled heat and air-conditioning units in the common area and each bedroom.

Housing Process (2024-2025) 

The process to secure placement in the DePaul Townhouses as a newly admitted student is as follows: 

Step 1: 

Submit a seat deposit (non-refundable) per the instructions in your admission letter AND submit a $500 housing deposit (refundable until May 10, 2024, for incoming 1Ls and April 10, 2024, for continuing law students). Payments can be made via credit card on your UIS/Touch Net account online (see instructions in admission letter to access UIS/Touch Net) or by check or money order made payable to “St. John’s University” and sent to the Law School Admissions Office, 8000 Utopia Parkway, Queens, NY 11439. Students may also submit their payment over the phone by calling the Office of Student Financial Services at 718-990-2000

January 2 to April 10, 2024 is the general housing period (for any Law Student) for submitting their housing deposit to participate in our Online Housing Selection process. Incoming Law Students receive first priority when they deposit before April 1, 2024.  

Students will be offered housing in the order of their deposit date. If you do not provide a deposit by the deadline (late or unable to make payment), you will not be eligible to participate in the housing selection process; however, you will be invited to participate in our housing intent process. 


Post-Selection Housing Placement Form: 

Post Selection Housing Placement Form link will open after the April 10, 2024 deposit deadline. 

April 10-onward, any law student who did not make a deposit and remains interested in University housing is eligible to join the Housing Intent Process. Students will be contacted once space is available and will be invited to submit a $500 deposit at that time. 


Step 2: 

Upon receipt of both your seat and on-time housing deposit, you will receive an e-mail from the Office of Residence Life inviting you to the Housing Portal to complete the housing application, housing agreement, and student profile. Please note: processing of a deposit can take up to 24-48 hours. This step must be completed by April 10, 2024. 


Step 3: 

Self-selection appointments will be emailed to students by the Office of Residence Life. During the self-selection process, students may log into the Housing Portal to review available spaces, select a room and choose a meal plan (if applicable). 

Located less than a mile from campus, the DePaul Townhouses is a community of approximately 100 graduate and law students who live in a townhouse setting on Union Turnpike. Most law students will be assigned to single bedrooms connected to a common space shared with 2-3 other law students.

Studies show that students who live in University housing outperform their off-campus peers academically. An easy walk to campus allows you to access the Law School, its library, and its faculty with ease.


In late July, residents will receive move-in information, including a list of what may and may not be brought to DePaul Townhouses, as well as apartment-mate contact information. First-year law student move-in will take place in mid-August, typically a few days before the start of 1L Orientation. 

Meal Plans

The DePaul Townhouses are located at 147 Union Turnpike in Flushing, NY 11367, about one mile from the Law School. From campus, head west on Union Turnpike for about one mile, and the DePaul Townhouses will be on your left.

The School of Law is located on St. John's University's Queens Campus, in a quiet, safe, inexpensive, and suburban neighborhood about 12 miles from Manhattan.  

If choosing to live off-campus, admitted students should allow ample time to learn the area, visit several properties, and secure an apartment. Remember that New York City apartments tend to move quickly, so you may wish to plan a visit to the area and set up meetings with several landlords to make the most efficient use of your time. Also, securing a roommate may be a smart and economical option. Please see the section on the Roommate List for more information.
