The site must have a minimum of two preceptors; one individual must be identified as the principal preceptor who has an interest in training and supervising experiential students. The preceptor must have designated responsibility for student instruction.

Preceptors must either:
- Hold an advanced degree or entry-level Pharm.D. degree
- Have completed a pharmacy residency
- Be board certified in a specialty area
- Have proven his/her expertise in instructing students in previous experiential rotations (i.e. the modules in the former B.S. in pharmacy program, the Shadowing Rotation, the Externship Rotation, etc.)
- For newly affiliated sites and/or preceptors, the preceptors’ credentials will be evaluated after one year for certification as indicated above
Preceptors must be licensed in the state of practice for one year.
Preceptors must have worked at the site for one year.
Preceptors must make him/her available for student activities and subsequent assessments.
Preceptors must submit an updated resume or C.V. to the Clinical Coordinators’ Office every three years.
Preceptors must attend at least one experiential workshop sponsored by the College in a three-year period.
Preceptors must abide by all provisions of existing contractual agreements between the pharmacy or institution and St. John's University.
