Mentoring Opportunities

Often the best, most inspiring advice comes from listening to the personal experiences of others. Communication with professionals can provide realistic information about career options, job responsibilities and employment conditions.

Alumni and employer partners of St. John’s University can serve as mentors to students through a variety of programs. Mentors serve as a resource to current students and new graduates who are exploring career, internship and employment opportunities.

WHAT TO EXPECT
You can provide one-to-one mentoring, invite students to shadow you at your workplace, or serve as a guest speaker. A variety of mentoring activities are available to suit your interests and availability and you can control your level of involvement.

ASPIRE Mentor Program

The St. John’s University Aspire Mentor Program supports ambitious students who are striving to reach their professional goals through a one-on-one mentor relationship. Throughout this year long program, alumni mentors guide their mentees as they work to develop career-related competencies, learn about their industry of interest, and build confidence in their ability to achieve success. Mentors connect either in person or virtually 1-2 times per month regarding the students’ progress toward their goals, and other topics related to their professional development. This is an opportunity to truly make a difference in a student’s life and help them to launch their career. Learn More

St. John's Career Services on LinkedIn

St. Johns Career Service under 'Company' is the official group of Career Services at St. John's University on LinkedIn. The group compliments the ASPIRE Mentor and Job Shadowing programs providing a forum for building strong student-alumni relationships, as well as peer-to-peer connections.

As alumni, employers and friends, we are asking you to volunteer to assist St. John’s students and fellow grads through the career exploration and job search processes. St. John's University LinkedIn page is not a job placement service. Rather, it’s an opportunity for students to build a network of connections, to gather information about employment trends, job functions, salary expectations, effective job/internship searches, and the career paths of St. John’s alumni.

Joining St. Johns Career Services on LinkedIn is simple:

  • Create or login into your LinkedIn Profile
  • Search ‘Company’ for St. John's Career Service
  • Request to Join
