College Committees

ST. JOHN’S UNIVERSITY NEW YORK COLLINS COLLEGE OF PROFESSIONAL STUDIES FACULTY COUNCIL BY-LAWS

ARTICLE VI:  STANDING COMMITTEES OF THE FACULTY COUNCIL

  1. The members of all Standing Committees of the Council shall be nominated from and elected by the members of the Council and shall serve for a period of two years.  The Chairperson shall be an ex-officio member of all Standing Committees but without vote.
     
  2. There shall be the following standing committees:
    1. Committee on Curriculum and Educational Policy
    2. Committee on Admissions and Academic Standing
    3. Committee on Budget
    4. Information Resources Committee
    5. Committee on Faculty Development
    6. Committee on By-Laws and By-Law Revision
    7. Committee on Assessment
       
  3. General function of the standing committees:  The general function of the standing committees of the Faculty Council of the Collins College of Professional Studies shall be:  To formulate policy relating to Collins College of Professional Studies curriculum matters and regulations pertaining to the admission, retention, and graduation of undergraduate and graduate students of the Collins College of Professional Studies; to receive and report to the Council on the annual budget; to serve as a liaison between the Council and the Dean of University Libraries; to provide avenues for the professional and social development of faculty; and to conduct a continuing examination and study of the By-Laws.
     
  4. Special function, responsibility, and area of each standing committee:
    1. The Committee on Curriculum and Educational Policy
      1. The Committee shall consist of the chairperson of each division of the Collins College of Professional Studies, one additional member from each division of the Collins College of Professional Studies, and two undergraduate student and one graduate student elected from the student delegation.
      2. In the event that one person should serve as chairperson of more than one division, that chairperson shall chose the one division that he/she wishes to represent on the committee as chairperson, and each of the remaining members of his/her division shall elect another representative to the committee.
      3. The Committee on Curriculum and Educational policy shall:
        1. appraise the adequacy, immediacy, relevancy, and applicability of course offerings and programs;
        2. make itself aware of innovative approaches to curriculum matters, teaching techniques, learning materials, and related matters;
        3. make appropriate recommendations to the Council.
           
    2. The Committee on Admissions and Academic Standing shall consist of one member from each division of the Collins College of Professional Studies.  This Committee shall make a continuing study of policies and regulations pertaining to the admission, retention, and graduation of both undergraduate and graduate students of the College of Professional Studies, and shall report to, and/or make recommendations to the Council.
       
    3. The Committee on Budget shall consist of one member from each division of the Collins College of Professional Studies.  The Committee shall be empowered to establish budgetary priorities, implement financial policies, and monitor the implementation of those policies on a periodic basis. It shall be responsible for overall policy matters relating to a budget program and to aid in the preparation of the budget itself.
       
    4. The Information Resources Committee shall consist of one member from each division of the Collins College of Professional Studies, one undergraduate and graduate student member from the student delegation, and one non-voting, ex-officio member designated by the Dean of University Libraries.  This committee shall be responsible for:
      1. liaison between the Council and the University Library;
      2. familiarizing faculty with the library procedures regarding use, acquisitions, and operations;
      3. facilitating the use of Library resources by the College of Professional Studies faculty and students.  

        Each divisional representative shall serve as the Library Liaison Officer for the representative’s division.  The committee shall report to and make appropriate recommendations to the Council.
    5. The Committee on Faculty Development shall consist of one member from each division of the Collins College of Professional Studies.  The objectives of this committee shall be to encourage social and professional interaction among the faculty of the College, and sponsor activities to achieve these ends in collaboration with other groups.
       
    6. The Committee on By-Laws and By-Law Revision shall consist of one member from each division of the College of Professional Studies.  This Committee shall be responsible for the continuing examination and study of the By-Laws for the purpose of assuring their conformity with current conditions and University Statutes, and shall report to, and/or make necessary recommendations to the Council.
    7. The Committee on Assessment shall consist of one member from each division of the Collins College of Professional Studies. The Committee will identify the assessment needs of the College and provide advice as to the best policies and procedures to create effective assessment programs. It shall also be responsible for collecting data from the Chairs and Program Directors pertaining to assessment and reporting data when requested by the University administration and/or accrediting bodies.
