Research has shown that populations with phonological processing disorders tend to exhibit increased latencies and reduced amplitudes of auditory-evoked responses in response to both speech and non-speech stimuli. To examine possible neural intervention effects on auditory processing, we recorded event-related potentials in 17 healthy young adults before and after a session of short transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS). We found tDCS reduced the latency and increased the amplitude of some ERP responses. Our findings suggest the possibility of utilizing tDCS as a treatment within populations characterized by phonological processing deficits and other auditory processing disorders.
