The Institute for the Study of Catastrophe Risk and Resilience connects researchers, industry leaders, and policymakers to find practical solutions for managing catastrophic risks.

Catastrophe Risk

About Us

We bring together experts in economics, insurance, actuarial science, environment, public policy, decision-making, and risk management to study real-world challenges. Through conferences, seminars, and publications, we generate and share evidence-based insights that shape policy and practice. Our goal is to help communities, businesses, and governments prepare for and recover from disasters through smarter decision-makings on risk mitigation, insurance, and other financing strategies.

Our Objectives

We aim to build a collaborative community where academics, industry leaders, and policymakers work together to manage challenges of catastrophic risk. Our focus is on producing impactful research, strengthening industry–academic partnerships, mentoring the next generation, and shaping policies and practices that build resilience. We achieve this by:

  • Bringing leaders together through major conferences and focused research seminars
  • Generating and sharing new insights through working papers, publications, and open data tools
  • Engaging students in hands-on research, mentorship, and real-world industry dialogue
  • Enriching curricula with timely issues in risk, insurance, and resilience
  • Partnering with industry and communities to put knowledge into practice
  • Expanding our reach and impact through a strong digital presence
