For students who have submitted a deposit the Incoming 1L Student Center (password protected) has important information to prepare for enrollment.
We're happy host you virtually to showcase the Law School and to answer any questions you may have. Admitted students can sign up for a tour on our visit us page, watch a virtual tour and schedule a virtual or in-person visit by contacting their admissions counselor or emailing [email protected] There will be Admitted Student Day events in the spring. In addition, we can put you in email contact with a faculty member, financial aid representative, career development counselor, or current student.
The University maintains these townhouses one mile from campus for the exclusive use of law students. However, space in these premium accommodations is limited to 69 individual single bedrooms in three-person apartments. Housing information is available here.
Your seat deposit information including amount and due date(s) is located in your letter from your admissions counselor.
Seat deposits are credited towards tuition charges and fees. Seat deposits hold an admitted student's seat up until tuition is due in July.
Credit card deposits may be made online using UIS (University Information System). Ensure all pop-up blockers on your internet browser are turned off. Enter your User ID which is your XNumber (you can find this number in your letter from your counselor). Enter your PIN/password (Sj and the eight digits from your XNumber). You will need to select a new password at your first login. Select the "Student" tab at the top of the page and choose "New Student Information." Click "Admissions," then "Admissions Deposits," and choose "Law School Seat Deposit." This will bring you to Touch Net. Select the "Deposits" tab at the top of the new page. Choose "Fall 2021" and from the second drop-down menu that appears, choose "Fall Law Seat Deposit." Contact the Admissions Office at 718-990-6474 or [email protected] if you require any assistance.

Convocation and Orientation – Begins mid-August
An introduction to St. John’s University, a convocation event, a chance to interact with faculty for lunch or other fun activities, an opportunity to volunteer in the community around St. John’s, and time to meet your new classmates. There will be orientation events during the first two weeks of the Fall semester.
All students are required to attend convocation and all orientation sessions pertaining to their respective programs.
Introduction to Law (First two weeks)
This course is a St. John’s exclusive and reflects our belief that we want every student to succeed. All 1Ls take this ungraded two week course prior to the start of their first semester classes. It includes instruction on how to read and brief cases to give new students a footing to traverse the unfamiliar ground of legal education, including case analysis and statutory analysis. The introductory course also presents the fundamentals of legal writing.Fall Semester Classes (Immediately following Intro to Law)
First year students will be assigned classes and you will receive your Fall class schedule in July along with convocation and orientation information.
Tuition bills will be issued and available to view on UIS starting late June. You will not be able to pay your bill or confirm your registration on UIS prior to then. Tuition bills must be paid or your account must be settled with the Office of Financial Services with a financial aid package by the deadline in July. If you have not paid tuition, settled your account, or arranged for payment to be made with the Office of Financial Services by that date, you may be withdrawn from the entering class.
Incoming students must provide official transcripts from all previous colleges and universities attended, including a final transcript showing conferral of an undergraduate degree. Official transcripts submitted to the LSAC Credential Assembly Service are sufficient for these purposes. Pursuant to the American Bar Association Standards and Rules of Procedure for Approval of Law Schools, students who do not submit such transcripts by October 15th of their year of enrollment will be withdrawn from the program, unless the Law School, through the Assistant Dean for Students, grants a reasonable extension for extraordinary circumstances where, through no fault of the student, he or she was unable to procure a transcript in time. If such extraordinary circumstances are present, documentation will be placed in the student’s file.
New York State Public Health Law 2165 requires that all students born on or after January 1, 1957 provide proof of immunity to measles, mumps and rubella disease. Students must have on file with the University Health Office (DaSilva Hall) the following:
Accident and sickness insurance is available to all full-time and part-time students. This insurance may be purchased by enrolling at www.universityhealthplans.com.
University Housing is available for law students in the DePaul Townhouses. We can also provide assistance in locating area housing and/or a roommate. In addition there is information regarding off-campus housing on our website. Information is available on our student housing website.

While owning a laptop is not mandatory, many students use a laptop in class and for final exams.We support PC and Mac notebooks, and the wireless network makes it easy for students to access the internet throughout campus. Financial Aid and Scholarship Awards
The Law School provides financial aid information on our website.
If you are entitled to a refund due to an overpayment (which is most likely due to taking out more loans than there are charges on your St. John's account), you should complete a Student Refund Direct Deposit Form (PDF). This money may be used to purchase books, pay rent, etc. Once the Bursar’s Office receives your refund request, your account will be reviewed and, if you are due a refund, a check will be mailed to you during the first week of classes. Please be prepared to pay for expenses prior to the first week of classes out of pocket, as the loan refund money will not be available until then.
St. John's University School of Law thoroughly evaluates the merits of each application we receive in detail, and merit scholarships are awarded to students based on a full review of their application for admission. It is our policy to make the most competitive scholarship offers possible, given the applicant pool. In other words, our initial offer is our best and final offer given the method of our review and the competitiveness of the applicant pool.
