John Collen is a partner with Smith Amundsen, LLC, in Chicago where he serves as co-chair of the firm’s Financial Services Group. His national practice focuses on complex chapter 11 matters and restructurings, including involvement in many well known cases and many reported opinions. He is a member of the American College of Bankruptcy (Class XV), and is the author of a treatise, “Buying and Selling Real Estate in Bankruptcy” as well as being the author of many articles. He received his A.B. degree, summa cum laude, from Dartmouth College (1977) and his law degree from Georgetown University Law Center (1980), where he taught legal research and writing and won the prestigious Leahy Moot Court Competition.
