A Message from Dean Jelani Jefferson Exum

For 100 years, animated by Vincentian ideals, St. John’s Law has provided access to a high-quality legal education. In the words of our mission, we’re committed to serving all students, including those “lacking economic, physical, or social advantages.” After earning their law degree, our graduates go on to succeed and lead, and a majority of them do it in the most rigorous legal market in the world—New York City.

Over the years, alumni and friends have been essential partners in helping us fulfill our critical mission of producing exceptional lawyers that the world sorely needs. By every measure, St. John’s Law is on the rise. Our top employment outcomes, standout approach to bar preparation, and high student satisfaction have driven a surge in interest and a rise in applications to the Law School.

To build on this strong foundation, as part of the University’s HEARTS ON FIRE capital campaign, we recently launched the Campaign for St. John's Law, a major fundraising effort that will carry the Law School into its second century of excellence, prominence, and impact.

Together, we’ll ensure that the St. John's Law continues to attract and educate the best and brightest who will carry on the mission and values of our school. With your generous support, we will prioritize:

  • Broad access to a rigorous legal education through scholarships and fellowships
  • Meaningful opportunities for students to learn the law hands on, through our in-house and partner clinics, academic centers, innovative courses, and competition teams
  • Physical upgrades to the Law School to provide students with the learning environment and resources they need to succeed in an evolving legal profession

As I complete my first year as dean, I look forward to working with you to fulfill the promise of this important fundraising campaign and help St. John’s Law thrive for the next 100 years and beyond.

With gratitude,
Jelani Jefferson Exum
