- Financial Aid
St. John's University School of Law encourages all applicants and current students who need financial assistance for law school to apply for financial aid. The Free Application for Financial Student Aid (FAFSA) is required to apply for consideration of federal loans at St. John’s Law. You may apply online at https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa. St. John’s federal school code is 002823. Representatives from the Student Financial Services team can be reached at 718-990-2000 or [email protected] You will find more detailed information in this Financial Aid Process document (PDF) created by the University Office of Student Financial Services.
The Law School acts as a financial aid liaison to the University Office of Student Financial Services for prospective and current students. While the Law School assists you with the process of obtaining financial aid and administers merit-based scholarships, the University Office of Student Financial Services is responsible for creating financial aid packages and assisting students with financial planning.
Students are encouraged to continue to seek federal, public, and private scholarship opportunities throughout their time at St. John's. Many of these can be found through basic online searches based on criteria such as year in law school, area of law of interest, geographical region, etc. Others may be found on our Online Student Center.
Financial Planning

Continuing Student Scholarships
Academic Achievement Awards
In addition to the entering scholarships available to Law School students, students may become eligible for tuition assistance after completing their first year. Students who place in the top 25% of their class at the end of every year are eligible to receive an award bringing their total financial aid package to half-tuition assistance. This award is renewable annually provided the student remains in the top 25% of their class. These awards can be granted in addition to a current scholarship, but in no case will the award bring a student’s total financial aid package to more than half-tuition assistance. Continuing students will be notified in the summer if they are eligible for such an award.
External Scholarships
We also make continuing students aware of a number of external scholarships. These are emailed to current students throughout the year and also posted on the Online Student Center.
Scholarship Retention
For the entering class of 2023, all scholarship awards are guaranteed and nonforfeitable (there is no minimum GPA required to retain a scholarship).
Earlier classes may have been admitted under different scholarship retention policies.
