What We Do

The mission of the Applied Finance Institute is to promote the activities of the Tobin College that are related to the practice of finance for the benefit of our finance students. The Institute will provide a focal point, encouraging an applied and experiential learning environment, relevant to the practice of finance, in order to prepare Tobin finance students for successful careers.

The Institute will provide a focal point, encouraging an applied and experiential learning environment, relevant to the practice of finance, in order to prepare Tobin finance students for successful careers.

Benefits of being an AFI Fellow include:

  • Recognition: Finance students who distinguish their achievements with experiential & applied finance curricular and co-curricular activities;
  • Sponsorship for CFA: Prep course and study material for at least Level 1 of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) exam;
  • Unique experiences: Eligible to apply for i) AFI Scholarship to experience London, Europe’s financial capital, with a Global Destination Course and ii) AFI Sponsorship to attend the Global Asset Management Education (G.A.M.E.) Forum in New York City;
  • Applied knowledge: Participate in applied finance competitions: ETF Global Portfolio Challenge, CME Group Trading Challenge, and graduate Fellows may also choose the CFA Research Challenge or ACG Cup;
  • Invitation to AFI events: Finance practitioner presentations, applied finance research seminars, and applied finance conferences, and
  • “Certificate of Completion” when all the program requirements are met.
