About the Summer 2024 Renovation Project

The two elevators inside the Rittenberg Law Library are being renovated and will be out of service from Tuesday, May 14, 2024 through the start of the Fall 2024 semester. The information below will help Law School community members access the library and our services during the renovation.

General Information

Building Hours

Library building hours and service hours are available on our hours page.

Quiet Floor Policy

Though the renovation itself will create some noise, we will otherwise do our best to preserve an atmosphere conducive to quiet study. All floors in the library will be quiet floors during the renovation.

Library Materials

The library team will retrieve materials on floors 1M, 2M, and 3 on request. Please email your request to [email protected]. 

Prayer Room

The prayer room on floor 2M is available via the stairwell inside the library. To arrange alternate access to the prayer room, please email the library team at [email protected].

Information for St. John’s Law Graduates Studying for the Bar Exam

St. John’s Law graduates studying for the bar exam will have access to the following spaces:

• The main floor of the library via the library’s main doors
• Floor 1M, via the stairwell inside the library
• Study rooms on floor 2, via the Alternative Dispute Resolution Suite (Storm Card swipe access to study rooms is only available to students studying for the bar exam). Please reserve floor 2 study rooms through our room reservation system as usual.
• Floor 2M, via the stairwell inside the library
• Floor 3, via the stairwell inside the library and via the Admissions Suite (Storm Card swipe access from Admissions is only available to students studying for the bar exam)

Should we experience noise from the renovation, these four classrooms will serve as quiet study spaces: 

• 2-16
• 2-25 
• 3-44
• 3-07

Information for Current St. John’s Law Students

Current St. John’s Law students will have access to the following spaces:

• The main floor of the library via the library’s main doors
• Floor 1M, via the stairwell inside the library
• Floor 2M, via the stairwell inside the library
• Floor 3, via the stairwell inside the library

Study rooms on floor 2 are reserved for St. John's Law graduates who are studying for the bar exam. Current students can reserve study rooms on the main floor and 1M through our room reservation system.

Information for Faculty, Staff, and Administrators

Members of the faculty, staff, and administration are welcome to use the library during the renovation. You may also request a delivery of library materials to your office or mailbox by emailing the library team at [email protected].  

Information for St. John’s Law Alumni

During the renovation, St. John’s Law Alumni may access the law library and our resources during our regular service hours as described on our Resources for Alumni page.
