This fall, St. John's Intellectual Property Law Center welcomed three 1Ls as its newest Intellectual Property Honors Scholars.
St. John’s University to Offer “Service Scholarship Awards” to Children of Police Officers, Firefighters and Members of the Military
St. John’s University announced today that the University is providing scholarships in the amount of $2,000 per academic year, for up to four years of continuous, full-time undergraduate enrollment, to the children of our nation’s police officers, firefighters and members of the military beginning in the fall of 2018.
“Renaissance: Five Years After Sandy” Photo Exhibit
“Renaissance: Five Years After Sandy” chronicles the experiences of Hurricane Sandy through creative perspectives of artists residing on Staten Island. Five years ago Hurricane Sandy devastated Staten Island. The resilience of Island residents is exemplified by images on display in this exhibit. Despite the pockets of abandoned houses and half-completed shoreline projects, there has been recovery as well. Development and population growth are evident Island-wide. Renaissance a short five years post-Sandy. All the works on display in are created by members of the Creative Photographers Guild and St. John’s University students of Professor Frisch-Cherniak. Poverty Conference Seeks Solutions to Homelessness
Reaching out to those in need—especially the homeless—is a cornerstone of St. John’s University’s Vincentian Mission. Equally important is the effort to identify and find solutions to the root causes of the problem. These were the goals of the 10th Biennial Vincentian Chair of Social Justice Conference, held October 21 at the D’Angelo Center on the Queens campus.
St. John’s to Host Lux Aeterna in Concert on October 25
Epsilon Kappa, St. John’s Chapter of Sigma Delta Pi, the Fundación Miguel Hernández, the Department of Languages and Literatures, and many other institutions will present Lux Aeterna, a unique concert to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the passing of Miguel Hernández during the Spanish Civil War.

On a recent visit to St. John’s University’s Rome, Italy, campus, President Conrado “Bobby” Gempesaw, Ph.D., had the opportunity to discuss the University’s enduring Vincentian mission and the unique experiential learning that takes place at St. John’s, known as academic service-learning, with Juliet Linley, Vatican Correspondent for EWTN, the Global Catholic Television Network which broadcasts in 140 countries.

Veteran EPA Prosecutor Warns Students of Climate Change
“We are messing with the foundations of life on earth for all living things,” warned Carl Howard, Esq., who has been the Assistant Regional Counsel for the Region 2 Office of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in New York City for the past 30 years. Howard delivered the lecture, “EPA, Climate Change, and You” to a standing-room-only crowd in D’Angelo, Room 416C on Monday, October 16, 2017 during Common Hour (1:50 – 3:15 p.m.).
