Staten Island Campus Life

Campus Life: Activities, Greek Life, Intramurals, Recreation and Fitness

Staten Island Teach-Out

Staten Island Campus Life is not limited to new students. We hope that students will continue to be involved in campus activities throughout their college career. Our Campus Life activities ensure that there is never a dull moment on campus! This year, we added a campus Movie, Fitness, and NYC Theatre Broadway Show Series - Broadway plays are offered at discount.

Greek Life is also a large presence on the Staten Island campus. The University believes involvement in fraternities and sororities is one of many ways to enhance the quality of life for students by providing a range of opportunities for meaningful individual and group involvement, development, and growth. The St. John's Staten Island community offers a variety of fraternities and sororities from which you may choose. They are committed to educating members and potential members about academic values, community service, leadership, brother and sisterhood, interfraternalism, personal integrity and social development. Greek recruitment is at the beginning of each semester. Staten Island’s Greek Community hosts a fun-filled week of competition during Greek Week held late in the spring semester. Greek-affiliated students also have the opportunity to apply for membership in the Order of Omega, a National Greek Honor Society.

Campus Life also offers many large-scale traditions. These include the Activities fair, Welcome and End of the Year BBQs, Spirit Night, Family Day, Winter Carnival, and Awards Nights. These events serve to bond students, faculty, administration, and staff.

There are over 40 student clubs/organizations on the Staten Island campus. Students choose from clubs that support academics, service, culture, performing arts, politics, honor societies, media/student publications, Religion, Greek life, and other special interests.

If you were involved in high school athletics, don’t put away your equipment yet. Staten Island is committed to supporting the University’s Division One athletic teams in addition to our own campus’s Intramural Sports. Tickets to sporting events hosted on the Queens campus and Madison Square Garden are often made available. Students can also participate in a variety of intramural activities including volleyball, football, basketball, and softball.

The Fitness Center is open seven days a week to all students throughout the academic year. It is equipped with state-of-the-art-equipment and offers a wide-range of fitness classes during the week including pilates, kick-boxing, yoga, and body conditioning. All classes are free.

Free shuttle buses connect students to the Queens campus, to points of interest on Staten Island and to the celebrated Staten Island Ferry. A free, 20-minute ride across New York Bay brings students to exciting lower Manhattan.
