E.P.I.C. (Establish Relationships, Promote Possibilities, Impact Direction, Confirm Next Steps) is a year-long peer to peer mentoring program. The goal is to create a community where our first-year students learn from the guidance and wisdom of sophomores, juniors, or seniors who have successfully navigated their first year in college. E.P.I.C. stands for Establish Relationships, Promote Possibilities, Impact Direction, and Confirm Next Steps. The establishment of relationships between first-year and upper-class students will promote the possibilities for the attainment of academic goals and extracurricular involvement at the university.  Further, participation will positively impact the directions of students and help them confirm their next steps on their path toward academic and career success.

How it Works

Students are matched with an upper-level student mentor based on common interests, background, academic and professional aspirations.  To get started, students and mentors complete and online survey to determine preferences.

What types of things do mentors and mentees discuss?

  • How will my major impact my professional options?
  • How do I balance the demands of school, sleep and socializing?
  • How can I set myself up for academic, social and career success?
  • How do I make connections with peers and professional contacts?

First-Year Students (Mentees)

Get started. Find yourself a mentor who will coach and advise you throughout the big stuff and the small stuff. Complete the Interest Form.

Expectations:

  • Connect with peer mentor on an ongoing basis – in person, via text, email, etc.
  • Be open to getting to know/learn with and from a diverse and inclusive group of people who will share their experience navigating their pathway to success

Upper-Level Students (Mentors)

Peer-to-peer mentoring is a positive and helpful experience for both parties.  Be supportive to your fellow students.  Take the survey!

Expectations:

  • Mentor 2-3 first-year student mentees for one academic year
  • Meet with their mentees (first-year students) on an ongoing basis – in person, via text, email, etc.
  • Attend, and encourage their mentee to attend, relevant programs, meetings, workshops and activities.
