St. John’s University to Host Annual University of Liberia Alumni Chorus on Staten Island Campus

St. John’s University, Staten Island campus, will host the annual University of Liberia Alumni Chorus (ULAC) reunion concert on Saturday, November 11. St. John’s will welcome the University of Liberia and Staten Island’s Liberian community, the largest in North America.  St. John’s is committed to its Vincentian mission of embracing diversity and inclusion locally and globally.

”'One in Song’ holds true for ULAC in many special ways!  We are honored to welcome the Vice Provost of St. John’s University Dr. James O’Keefe to enjoy ULAC in concert for the first time.  We look forward to building on the relationship we have started,” said ULAC’s President, Rena Smith Jarrett.

“We are proud to host the University of Liberia’s Alumni Chorus and Dr. Ophelia Weeks, the President of the University of Liberia.  This concert brings together friends from near and far to our Staten Island campus, a global university right in our backyard,” said Robert Fanuzzi, Ph.D., Associate Provost and Director of Civic engagement.

He added, “St. John’s is committed to diversity and inclusion, and to building strong partnerships with our Staten Island community, home to North America’s largest Liberian immigrant community.  The University of Liberia Alumni Society and its Chorus show Staten Island at its best.”   

The University of Liberia Alumni Chorus is a non-profit organization born of a storied musical tradition created by the Late Agnes Nebo von Ballmoos, an internationally respected music scholar and educator. Since 2009, this group of over 50 Liberian professional from various walks of life, scattered around the United States, Europe, and Liberia comes together once a year in a US city for a fundraising benefit reunion concert.
