Christine Chim, St. John’s Pharmacy Professor, Selected for Clinical Scholars Fellow Program

October 4, 2017

Christine Chim, Pharm.D., Assistant Professor in the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, along with an inter-professional team at Northwell Health, was selected to be part of the second cohort of the Clinical Scholars Program. The Clinical Scholars program is a national leadership program supported by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, to prepare and support small teams of clinicians, from a range of disciplines, to address a “wicked problem” and lead transformative change in their communities.

Chim and her team will be addressing housing insecurity as a social determinant of health in the communities of Jamaica and Hempstead through their project SHELTER (Strengthening Health through Housing Education, Linkages, and Training to Empower Residents). As a Clinical Scholars fellow, each member of the team receives an annual fellowship of $35,000 and high-level leadership training for three years.

Clinical Scholars is a leadership development program led by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. It engages clinically active health care providers to collaborate in teams with fellow clinicians from a wide range of disciplines—including nursing, pharmacy, allied health, and social work. The teams take on complex problems in their communities, addressing the social factors that underlie health from their perspectives as both health care providers and members of the community.
