Epsilon Kappa, St. John’s Chapter of Sigma Delta Pi, will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month on Campus with a social, economic and political analysis of Cervantes’ Don Quixote de la Mancha. This masterpiece, published in two volumes, in 1605 and 1615, has influenced world literature from its conception to the present. Its author, considered the father of the contemporary novel, offers readers a variety of interpretations.
A round-table discussion on the Avant-Garde Vision of Don Quixote de la Mancha will take place with the participation of invited guest speakers as well as St. John’s faculty members: Vicente Alcaraz, economist and researcher, University of Alicante, Spain, Myriam de Arteni, Senior Conservator for Exhibitions at New York Public Library, Stefan Artemi, painter and philosopher, and Nicolás Toscano, Spanish Coordinator and Golden Age specialist. Marie-Lise Gazarian, moderator of Epsilon Kappa, Vice President for the North East of the National Honor Society and Director of the Graduate Program in Spanish, will chair the panel.
The discussion will be followed by a Book presentation of Cambio de era: El valor de las naciones by Vicente Alcaraz. A buffet will be served. All are welcome.
