- “Winds of Change: Women, Traditional Knowledge, and Climate Change with Tarcila Rivera-Zea, Quechua Indigenous Rights Activist”
Tarcila Rivera-Zea is a Quechuan activist from Ayacucho, Peru who is an expert in Human Rights and Indigenous Peoples. She founded the organization Chirapaq (Center for Indigenous Cultures of Peru) which “promotes the affirmation of identity and the recognition of indigenous rights in the exercise of citizenship, with a special commitment to indigenous children, youth and women.” She is also a member of the UNs Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues as an independent expert. Tarcila will spend all day Monday, March 18 at St. John’s where she will have several encounters with our students and the University community. Her main lecture will take place in DAC 128 from 1:50-3:15 p.m. when she will speak about: “Winds of Change: Women, Traditional Knowledge and Climate Change with Tarcila Rivera-Zea"
