In recent years, as interest in eSports and video gaming has grown, so too have the resources and opportunities at St. John’s University. In 2018, the University built within the Technology Commons an eSports area with dedicated and optimized eSports computers for students’ recreational and competitive use.

That same year, St. John’s students began officially competing in eSports competitions through the BIG EAST Conference, and faculty and staff from across the University also began undertaking research on various aspects of eSports, including the management and marketing of eSports, in addition to the health and wellness of participants.

Then, in 2019, an undergraduate course focused on the management and administration of eSports was unveiled by the Department of Sport Management. Moving forward, St. John’s University hopes to integrate more academic and research opportunities in the area of eSports and video gaming.
