André McKenzie

Dr. André McKenzie serves as Vice Provost.  As Vice Provost Dr. McKenzie oversees External Scholarships and Fellowships, Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP), Global Language and Culture Center, Graduate Admission Assistance Program, Graduate Assistantships and Fellowships, Grants and Sponsored Research, Inside Out Program, Liberty Partnerships Program, Ronald E. McNair Scholars Program, Student Support Services, University Honors Program, University Writing Center, Upward Bound, and Writing Across Communities. Since February 2021, Dr. McKenzie has been serving as one of the co-chairs of the University Strategic Planning Committee. 

In addition to his administrative duties, Dr. McKenzie is an Adjunct Associate Professor in our School of Education. He has also taught through the University’s Institute for Core Studies. 

Dr. McKenzie received B.S. and M.S. degrees in education from Illinois State University and MS.Ed. and Ed.D. degrees from Teachers College, Columbia University. He received a Certificate in Management Development from Cornell University’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations and was a participant in the Harvard University Graduate School of Education’s Institute for Educational Management.

Dr. McKenzie is a contributing author to African American Fraternities and Sororities: The Legacy and the Vision (2005), Student Freedom Revisited: New Issues and Perspectives (2005), and Alpha Phi Alpha: A Legacy of GreatnessThe Demands of Transcendence (2012), and Student Affairs in Urban-Serving Institutions: Voices from Senior Leaders (2019).  He has also contributed articles to the NASPA (National Association of Student Personnel Administrators) Journal. 

Dr. McKenzie is Past-President of the Teachers College, Columbia University Alumni Council. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Brooklyn Emerging Leaders Academy Charter High School and St. Francis Preparatory School in Fresh Meadows, Queens. He is the recipient of St. John’s Vincentian Mission Award, and The Spirit of St. John’s Award. Dr. McKenzie’s professional affiliations include the American Counseling Association, the American College Personnel Association, the National Academic Advising Association, and the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators.
