Robert Kalenka '84CBA, '91MBA - Spirit of Service Award Presentation

When Robert Kalenka reflects on those aspects of his life for which he is most grateful, his thoughts immediately focus on his family, his faith and his University. He readily acknowledges the profound impact that each of those influences has had in making him the person he is today – a talented and successful man for whom making a difference in the lives of others is the ultimate goal.

A double alumnus, he earned his B.S. in Accounting in 1984 and his M.B.A. in Finance in 1991, both from the College of Business Administration. His highly successful career in the financial services industry began in 1984 when he accepted a position as Senior Auditor at Holtz Rubenstein and Company. Using his exceptional skills, insight, vision and, typical St. John’s trait of hard work, he steadily progressed through senior executive positions at a number of firms and currently serves as Corporate Vice President at Broadridge Financial Solutions, Inc., a leading global provider of investor communications and technology-driven-solutions to banks, broker-dealers, mutual funds, and corporations. In his role at Broadridge, he has responsibility for over 1,300 associates, and in the true spirit of St. Vincent de Paul, he embraces his position as an opportunity to both manage and mentor his colleagues in caring, compassionate ways, helping them to achieve their greatest potential.

Deeply spiritual, he counts his family as among the most significant of his many blessings. He is grateful for the love and devotion of his wife Corinne and daughters Kristie and Kelly, and is pleased that they are living the values that he himself embraces. It is a reality that allows him to grow in faith on a daily basis.

Over the years Kalenka has maintained his strong connection to the University and supports it in a variety of ways. He shares his time and talents as a gifted instructor in the Executive-in-Residence program, where he discusses current business issues with St. John’s honor students, inspiring them to follow in his footsteps. He actively participates in helping to instill exciting new ideas into the curriculum as a member of The Peter J. Tobin College of Business Advisory Board, and offers valuable insights as a member of St. John’s Board of Governors, a group that advises the University’s President and Board of Trustees on strategic issues relating to St. John’s.  He is also a member of The Loughlin Society, the premier donor recognition group comprised of the University’s most generous supporters. In 2009 a grateful University presented him with the Alumni Outstanding Achievement Award.

Tonight, St. John’s University again recognizes the many ways by which this illustrious alumnus evidences the concern for others that is at the heart of this institution’s mission and, with respect, admiration, and affection, presents the Spirit of Service Award to Robert Kalenka.
