Hon. Edward W. McCarty III served for 14 years as a Nassau County Assistant District Attorney specializing in homicide prosecutions.  He became a District Court Judge in 1985 and in 1991 was elected to the New York State Supreme Court.  He served on the New York State Supreme Court where he specialized in complex litigation and medical malpractice cases.  He is currently the Nassau County Surrogate responsible for the supervision of trusts and estates, adoptions and children with special needs.

Judge McCarty also has enjoyed varied international and national legal experiences.  He is a retired Colonel from the Judge Advocate General's Corps of the United States Army.  His significant military awards include the Legion of Merit and the Bronze Star.
