Policy

The New York State Department of Health and St. John’s University are following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) isolation and precautions for people with COVID-19, which provides information to those who test positive.

An employee who tests positive for COVID-19 must follow the procedures outlined on the COVID-19 Employee Information page. Employees are protected from retaliation from exercising rights provided for by law.

Paid Family Leave (PFL)

An employee who has a minor dependent child under an order of isolation due to COVID-19, and who is covered under Paid Family Leave, may be eligible to take PFL. An employee who has an eligible family member who contracts COVID-19 may be able to take Family Care to care for that family member. For more information, employees should contact the Employee Benefits office and refer to New York Paid Family Leave for COVID-19 FAQs.

Paid Leave related to COVID-19 vaccination

Employees are entitle to paid time to receive COVID-19 vaccinations, including boosters, as provided in HR policy #1103. Additionally, employees are entitled to paid leave to accompany a child to get vaccinated or care for a child who experiences temporary side effects from a COVID-19 vaccine injection. See the COVID-19 Employee Information page for more information and procedures regarding vaccine leave.
