Advisen (register with St. John's email address)
Advisen delivers productivity and insight to insurance professionals by providing proprietary data & analytics for predictive risk assessment, loss susceptibility, and loss severity analysis; creating better underwriting and purchasing decisions. In addition, Advisen provides insurance focused datasets that give a comprehensive single view into critical company, insurance transactional and claims/loss information across the entire insurance landscape. Please note: students only have access to Professional edition of Front Page News via Advisen. The datasets must be accessed with the help of a librarian.
AM Best's Member Center (Access is restricted to the Manhattan Campus)
The A.M. Best Member Center provides access to valuable financial data on the insurance industry such as Best Ratings and variety of web centers on Property/Casualty, Life/Health, Reinsurance, Captive and more. The Member Center offers a single point of access to online services:
- Access premium content from one location.
- Quickly access A.M. Best's online product support centers.
- Search for Best's Credit Ratings.
- Allows you to set up BestAlert Service portfolio.

Axco Insurance Market Reports (Access is restricted to the Manhattan Campus)
Axco is an independent provider of detailed insurance market information covering over 170 countries. As well as providing an essential daily tool for multinational underwriters and brokers, the reports provide an excellent insight into new markets for anyone connected with the insurance industry. Within the Axco link you will gain access to three different Axco Reports:
- Insurance Market Reports- Detailed report on both non-life (P&C) and life and benefits markets and offer the necessary information to conduct full market analyses.
- Employee Benefits Reports - All key benefits in 69 employee benefits markets worldwide.
- Global Statistics - Database of detailed, up to date and reliable insurance statistics for over 180 territories.
For access you must register first using your St. John's email address. Please click on the link above and look at the top right corner of the Axco Portal page to register for an account.
CCH Benefits & Pensions (Access available on all SJU campuses)
Part of CCH's Health and Human database. Follow the link to the database page and click on CCH under section C. This is a searchable database of forms, articles, tables, and laws pertaining to personnel management, payroll, pensions and benefits, employee safety, workers' compensation, health law, and food and drug regulations.
Conning (Access availble on all SJU Campuses)
Conning Library provides insurers and industry service firms with access to Conning's ongoing coverage of the insurance industry strategic and key lines of business--more than 2,000 insurance research publications, presentations and data sets. Conning's Insurance Research group is committed to providing our clients with the highest quality insurance industry research through our Strategic Study series, our Insurance Segment Series, and our Forecast & Analysis series, among other research products. GlobalData (formerly Timetric) is a world leading data & analytics company who provide innovative solutions across a range of industries globally, including insurance and financial services. The Insurance Intelligence Center contains market data, expert analysis and advisory services covering 185+ markets globally. Provides access to intelligence utilised by leading brokers, underwriters, reinsurers and management consultants globally via a highly intuitive web-based platform.

Hoover's Online is an excellent source for basic information on more than 11,000 public and private U.S. companies and international companies. Resources include company overviews, history, news, officers, employees, locations & subsidiaries, products/operations, competitors, financial reports, stock quotes, SEC filings, and full-text news articles. Hoover's provides access to brief company information (capsule) or a complete report (profile). This site also provides links to company homepages, history, mission statements, and public companies' 10-K and annual reports. There are also 50+ industry reports, which discuss the history of the industry, provide statistics and corporate players
Insurance Information Institute (Individual sign up. You must use your St. John's e-mail account)
Members Only Area of the I.I.I. Website. This includes online access to the I.I.I.’s Insurance Fact Book. Hailed as the “almanac of the insurance industry,” the Fact Book delivers at-a-glance access to thousands of statistics, tables and graphs covering a range of vital topics, including factors affecting costs, losses by category, laws affecting motorists, premiums by line and many others. The online membership exclusive-version is updated continuously and provides customization tools that enable researchers to sort data by state and create special pdf editions based on selected criteria.
Mergent (Access available on all campuses)
Mergent Archives is an online database providing you with access to a vast, indexed collection of corporate and industry related documents. Containing more than 180,000 documents covering over 100 countries and industries, Mergent Archives uses a reliable and easy to navigate system designed to meet your historical research needs.
NILS: Insource (Red Books) (Access is restricted to the Manhattan Campus; See Library Staff for user name and password)
NILS INsource is a Web-based regulatory research tool designed exclusively for compliance research. It is used for examining State statutes, regulations, and advisory publications. This database includes for each state (when available):

PrivCo (Access restricted to the Manhattan Campus) . PrivCo is the only premiere database for private company financial information, including investors and deals as well. Whether doing company, investor, venture capital, M&A, or private equity research, PrivCo is searchable by advanced criteria in all categories. We have data on over 500,000 companies and 100,000 private market deals, and we are adding data on a daily basis.
ProQuest (Available on all SJU campuses)
The ProQuest database is an excellent online resource for broad-based business research with access to one of the world's largest collections of information, including summaries of articles from over 8,000 publications. ProQuest offers a deep backfile with many journals dating back to the 1970's.

A premier provider of breaking news, financial data and expert analysis on business sectors critical to the global economy. This database offers the ability to evaluate the entire U.S. insurance market including both public and private company information. Access to SEC Filings. Statutory Data. M&A capital markets and market share information. Key ratios, sector-specific reports and various other metrics for Property & Casualty companies, Life, Accident & Health companies, Life Separate Account statements and Health firms are available here. This site also provides comprehensive and proprietary news financial reports. Data sets are updated 24/7.
