Conferences and Colloquia

St. John's School of Law is home to a vibrant intellectual community. Each year, we host a range of academic conferences and symposia that bring leading scholars to St. John's to exchange ideas and engage in scholarly dialogue. These special events are often presented in collaboration with our academic centers and our student-run journals.

Our faculty colloquia and workshop series provides a forum for St. John's Law faculty and legal academics from around the world to present their work to colleagues for feedback and discussion. Our workshops are open to all interested legal academics.

Visiting Jurist Series

Through our annual Visiting Jurist Series, St. John's Law brings federal judges from around the country to campus for informal conversations with our students and faculty. The setting allows faculty to engage with the jurists who shape the development of the law and allows students to meet judges in a way that removes some of the mystery of the judicial process.

Recent visiting jurists include:

  • Hon. Colleen McMahon, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York
  • Hon. J. Paul Oetken, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of  New York
  • Hon. Vincent L. Briccetti, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York
  • Hon. Stanley R. Chesler, U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey
  • Hon. Jed. S. Rakoff, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York
  • Hon. Barbara S. Jones, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York
  • Hon. Brian M. Cogan, U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York
  • Hon. Dennis Jacobs, Chief Judge, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit
