Title IX Training: Reporting and Responding to Sexual Assault on Campus - scheduled for January 31, 2018
Until recently, the University has been targeting a specific population to attend this training, but the recent re-authorization of the Violence Against Women Act, coupled with the March 2013 enactment of the Campus Save Act, reminds us of the pervasive nature of sexual violence and misconduct on college campuses. It is with this in mind that the University has deemed this training significant for everyone to attend. All employees of the University community should attend this training to become familiar with the established procedures for preventing and responding to allegations of sexual violence and misconduct, dating violence, domestic violence and stalking that are compliant with Title IX federal regulations.
This training program, offered by the Offices of Student Affairs and Human Resources, will provide a comprehensive overview of Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972. Title IX is a federal law focused on eliminating discrimination on the basis of gender for all educational programs receiving federal funds. This training program will define discrimination, sexual harassment, and sexual violence. You will learn appropriate ways to respond in the event that a student approaches you with a claim that he or she has experienced or witnessed such treatment. The Title IX training program will educate participants about the possible effects discrimination; sexual harassment and sexual violence have on a victim(s) and on all members of the University community. The training program thoroughly explains St. John’s policies and procedures for addressing complaints, as well as your responsibility as a University employee to report complaints (to whom and how you should report).
The workshop will be held, Wednesday, January 31, 2018, from 9:30 am to 11:30 am.
