S-STEM Scholars Program
If you are a first-year student majoring in biology, chemistry, mathematics, or physics, you may be eligible for the National Science Foundation (NSF) supported S-STEM Scholars Program, which provides scholarships of up to $5,000 per year for three years for students with demonstrated financial need. The program also provides research support, academic support, and the opportunity to work across disciplines developing solutions for real-world, global problems. We strongly encourage students from demographic groups underrepresented in the sciences and math to apply.
To apply for this program, you must:
- Apply online;
- Plan to enroll as a second-year student at SJU for the following fall semester, majoring in biology, chemistry, mathematics, or physics;
- Have a GPA of 3.0 or higher;
- Provide two letters of recommendation from SJU or high school faculty research mentors, with at least one of these letters from an SJU professor in math or the sciences; and
- Be interested in pursuing a career in science, engineering, or mathematics.
A personal statement demonstrating your interest in addressing global issues using science and mathematics and an interview are also required for consideration in the program. Applications are due the first Friday of the Spring semester.
