OIE Faculty Resources

Go Global with St. John's!

The Office of International Education offers extensive support to faculty in the development and preparation of international opportunities for students in departments throughout the campus, in keeping with St. John's global mission.  Whether you teach with one of our semester programs at our European campuses, or wish to direct a program to any other part of the world, we are here to provide the resources and support to ensure a safe and successful global program.

St. John’s University Opportunities

  • Develop a Faculty-Directed Program Abroad!  Design a short-term program abroad, at one of our campuses in Europe or anywhere in the world.  With options to design a "stand-alone" January or summer program or an "embedded travel" course in the fall or spring semester, these high-impact experiences engage students more deeply in the world and in their academics.  Help your students gain international experience and improve their intercultural competence.
  • Propose a Core course for the first-year Global Passport Program!  Since first-year students cannot spend an entire semester studying abroad, the Global Passport program was designed to allow first-year students to take part in faculty-directed, academic experience culminating with a week at our Rome or Paris campus.  Faculty teach a common or distributed core course during the semester with an overarching theme connecting their New York-based classroom learning to their 7-day experience in Paris or Rome at the end of the semester.  Fall courses travel in early January; spring courses travel in mid-May.
  • Apply for an International Faculty Development Seminar through CIEE.  These high-impact thematic seminars are designed to help faculty develop new skills in internationalizing their portfolio and curriculum.
  • Apply for funding for a site visit to develop a global AS-L program.  The Vincentian Institute for Social Action provides funding to help establish new academic service learning initiatives and the Office of International Education can help you design the academics and site-specific activities as a short-term program abroad.
  • Collaborate with colleagues through one of our Partner Institutions.  St. John's University works with partner institutions around the world.  Explore opportunities for distance-learning collaborations via technology or with a short-term faculty-directed site visit with faculty and students from their sister department.  Past programs have included research projects coordinated long-distance and poster sessions abroad as the culmination of the semester's work.
