Dr. Shea earned a B.B.A. and a M.B.A in accounting from the University of North Florida. Upon graduation from UNF in 2001, he briefly worked as a financial analyst in Jacksonville, Florida and a financial accountant in Cambridge, England before returning to the United States to complete a doctorate degree in accounting at Kent State University. Dr. Shea focuses most of his research in the areas of Business Valuation of Information Technology (BVIT) and decision usefulness of Activity Based Costing (ABC). He has published articles in several journals including the Journal of Information Systems, International Journal of Accounting Information Systems, Information Systems Frontier, Issues in Accounting Education, Journal of Forensic Accounting, Journal of Accounting Education and CPA Journal. He has also presented research papers in both Europe and the United States—including national, regional and sectional meetings of the American Accounting Association. Prior to his employment at St. Johns University, Dr. Shea taught as a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University or North Florida and as a teaching fellow at Kent State University where he was twice nominated for the Kent State University College of Business Administration Teaching Award.
