Mary Ellen Freeley, Ed.D.

Dr. Mary Ellen Freeley is an Associate Professor in the School of Education’s Department of Administrative and Instructional Leadership (DAIL) at St. John’s University. Prior to joining the faculty at St. John’s, Dr. Freeley served in numerous administrative positions in Nassau County ranging from elementary principal, assistant superintendent for curriculum, instruction and personnel and, for twelve years, superintendent of schools. She began her career in public education as an elementary school teacher in New York City and spent three years as Director of Elementary Education and faculty member at the College of Mount St. Vincent. Dr. Freeley has been an active member of Phi Delta Kappa where she held every office on the board and served as President of the St. John’s Chapter and then as Faculty Advisor. Additionally, she was President of the Nassau County Superintendent’s Council, New York State ASCD and International ASCD. She also served as President of CADEA (the New York State Collegiate Association for Departments of Educational Administration) and as a board member for MCEAP (the Metropolitan Council of Educational Administration Professors). Dr. Freeley served as the first Chairperson of the Board for Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Academy and is the Chair of the Board of Trustees at The Mary Louis Academy. Dr. Freeley is the President of the Ladies of Charity, St. John’s University Chapter. Finally, Dr. Freeley is a member of the Board of Trustees of St. Joseph’s College, a Director of School Business Partnerships of Long Island (SBPLI) and a Director of Family Residences and Essential Enterprises (FREE). She has received many recognitions and awards for her leadership and service to the field of education including the Excellence in Educational Leadership Award from the University Council for Educational Administration (UCEA) an Honorary Doctor of Law degree from her alma mater, St. Joseph’s College. Dr. Freeley has published numerous articles and conducted hundreds of presentations on a National and International level.
