Shruti Deshpande, Ph.D.
Dr. Shruti Balvalli Deshpande was appointed as an assistant professor at St. John’s University in August 2016. Prior to that she was a visiting assistant professor and postdoctoral research scholar at the University of Iowa. Dr. Deshpande is a nationally accredited audiologist. Her overarching research interests are to investigate auditory perception and processing of individuals with typical versus atypical listening abilities.
In her first year at St. John’s University (2016-17), Dr. Deshpande was awarded six grants (e.g. Faculty Growth Grant; Sinatra Endowment Fund’s grant, Academic Service Learning Mini-grant; pilot funding from the Liberty Partnerships Program; travel grant from the Acoustical Society of America). In the academic year 2016-17, Dr. Deshpande published two book chapters; a peer-reviewed manuscript in a high impact audiology journal; two published abstracts; presented four papers/posters at conferences and was invited to deliver guest lectures at other universities. Under Dr. Deshpande’s mentorship her graduate assistant, Colleen A. O’Brien, presented at two national conferences and received a travel grant from the American Speech Language Hearing Association. Dr. Deshpande's undergraduate student, Kristen L. McMonagle, received the GAAP summer research grant from St. John’s University to plan and execute a project on central auditory processing disorders. Dr. Deshpande was awarded the Faculty Recognition Award in August 2017.
Dr. Deshpande enjoys academic discussions, travelling, and cooking with her better-half, Dr. Aniruddha Deshpande, who is a fellow audiologist and a professor. She is a proud, doting mother to her little daughter, Radha and her labrador retriever, Cymba.
