Dr. Heather Robertson is an Associate Professor in the Department of Counselor Education with the School of Education at St. John’s University. Dr. Robertson served as a counseling practitioner and administrator for 12 years in College Student Affairs, during which she held positions in career counseling, advising, orientation, transition, and military services for universities such as Stony Brook University, American University, Old Dominion University, Trinity College and Coastal Carolina Community College. Her current clinical counseling practice includes working with military veterans in substance abuse treatment. She earned a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from Virginia Tech, an M.S. in Counseling and Guidance from Texas A & M University at Corpus Christi, and a B.A. in Policy Studies from Syracuse University. Prior to joining St. John’s University, she held adjunct faculty appointments with Old Dominion University, Hofstra University, and the University of Bridgeport.

Teaching Interests

Dr. Robertson regularly teaches the following courses in the counselor education program: ED 6264 - Counseling Skills & Techniques EDU 6301 - Career Development EDU 6651 - Foundations of Mental Health Counseling EDU 6301 - Practicum in MH Counseling

Research Interests

Dr. Robertson’s research interests include career development and planning, midlife career change, career transition, distance counseling, military/veteran issues, substance use disorders, college student success, and college parent involvement.
