College Level Examination Program (CLEP)
The College Board offers you the opportunity to receive college credit by taking a CLEP exam (College Level Examination Program). There are 33 exams in the following five subject areas: literature and composition; history and social science; mathematics and science; business; and foreign languages (French, German, and Spanish).
Depending on which exam you take, you can earn 3-12 college credits. On the College Board web site, clep.collegeboard.org/exam you will be able to view exam details, try sample questions, and get additional study resources.
At St. John’s University, we offer the exams every Monday and Wednesday during the Fall and Spring Semesters, at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., as long as the University is open. Please contact the office for summer hours. Each exam is a 90-minute, computer based exam, except for College Composition which is 120 minutes. The cost of each CLEP exam is $87 plus an additional $50 processing fee to St. John’s University.
Attention St. John’s University students:
You must receive clearance from the Dean before scheduling an exam, if you are a St. John's University Undergraduate Student. If you do not receive approval from the Dean you are at risk of not receiving credit for the CLEP exam.
