Driven by a Passion for Discovery

While some undergraduates find it challenging to discover an area of study that truly speaks to them, as a student in The Peter J. Tobin College of Business, Elizabeth Simun-Janson found it difficult to choose just one.

“It was hard for me to commit to a single discipline, because, until then, I had capitalized on taking as many diverse business classes as possible,” said Ms. Simun-Janson, a Business Development and Research Analyst supporting the Strategy and Product Innovation division at Broadridge Financial Solutions, Inc.

Tasked by an advisor to declare a major, Ms. Simun-Janson decided to focus her studies on Finance, with a minor in Public Relations. Today, she helps leadership at Broadridge make informed business decisions to assist the organization as they grow revenue, reduce costs, and remain competitive.

Even though she has a defined role, her passion for learning diverse subjects is steadfast. “To this day, I read as much as I can, learning from as many people as possible,” she said. “I network with experts from different industries, all in the hope of doing something great with that knowledge.”

As Chair of the Graduates of the Last Decade (GOLD) Alumni Association, she regularly participates in student, alumni, and University events. She also serves as the Executive-in-Residence program liaison for Broadridge, which has been a partner with St. John’s for more than 15 years.

“I am proud that St. John’s makes an investment in students from all socioeconomic backgrounds,” she said. “I believe strongly that knowledge is the greatest equalizer, and that with a good education, strong willpower, and support from your community, friends, and family, a person is capable of achieving anything.”
