As it begins its seventh year, the Institute for Catholic Schools at St. John’s University continues to strengthen elementary and secondary Catholic schools throughout the New York region by regularly offering professional development and other programs for teachers and administrators.
Poverty Conference Seeks Solutions to Homelessness
Reaching out to those in need—especially the homeless—is a cornerstone of St. John’s University’s Vincentian Mission. Equally important is the effort to identify and find solutions to the root causes of the problem. These were the goals of the 10th Biennial Vincentian Chair of Social Justice Conference, held October 21 at the D’Angelo Center on the Queens campus.

On a recent visit to St. John’s University’s Rome, Italy, campus, President Conrado “Bobby” Gempesaw, Ph.D., had the opportunity to discuss the University’s enduring Vincentian mission and the unique experiential learning that takes place at St. John’s, known as academic service-learning, with Juliet Linley, Vatican Correspondent for EWTN, the Global Catholic Television Network which broadcasts in 140 countries.
Spotlight on Religious Life During Brothers’/Sisters’ Night
St. John’s University’s Campus Ministry sponsored its third annual Brothers’/Sisters’ Night at the 5:30 p.m. Sunday Student Mass on September 17 in St. Thomas More Church. This event gives students the opportunity to meet and pray with Sisters and Brothers who serve the local Church.
