The sights and sounds of the Christmas holiday season are apparent throughout the Queens, NY, campus of St. John’s University. Adding to the celebration this year is the return of “The Glorious Sounds of Christmas,” a free Christmas concert featuring the Queens Symphony Orchestra scheduled for Saturday, December 18, at 7 p.m. in The Little Theatre.
The concert is sponsored by Con Edison and St. John’s Italian Cultural Center. Registration is required, and all New York City Department of Health COVID-19 guidelines will be enforced. Attendees are required to wear a mask inside The Little Theatre at all times.
“In recent years we have sponsored an annual, outdoor, summer concert, but now with an external grant from Con Edison we are able to again sponsor a Christmas holiday concert as well,” said Joseph Sciame ’71Ed, Vice President, Office of Community Relations, St. John’s University. “As the concert is provided free, to best remember those who might have various needs at this time of year, we encourage all attendees to make a charitable donation to St. John’s Bread & Life of Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn.”
At the concert, the Queens Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Maestro Martin Majkut, will celebrate the spirit of the holiday season with revered Christmas classics like “A Carol of Bells” and Handel’s “Messiah,” as well as some traditional Italian Christmas songs.
All attendees ages 12 and older are required to be fully vaccinated from COVID-19 to enter the University’s performance venue. Fully vaccinated individuals (who are considered to be those who have received their final dose at least 14 days ago) must present proof of COVID-19 vaccination with either a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention vaccination card (a digital photo of the card is permissible) or an accredited mobile app (e.g., New York State Excelsior Pass and Excelsior Pass Plus, New York City COVID Safe, etc.). Attendees are also expected to provide appropriate photo identification to corroborate the name on the vaccination card. Per the recent Key to NYC program update, children ages 5–11 must show proof of one vaccination dose to enter a performance venue.
