William L. Murphy, Esq., Assistant Professor, Division of Criminal Justice, Legal Studies, and Homeland Security, The Lesley H. and William L. Collins College of Professional Studies was recently selected to be a recipient of St. John’s University’s Faculty Excellence in Student Engagement Award.
“This is a humbling honor that is truly more about the students we serve than any individual faculty member,” said Prof. Murphy. “The most rewarding aspect of what we do is not simply in imparting content or information, but instead in sharing a holistic, mutual, learning experience where an instructor learns as much—if not more—from the students.”
The award, which will be presented to Prof. Murphy at the Faculty Convocation on August 31, recognizes his ongoing involvement, participation, and commitment to facilitating the academic and personal success of undergraduate students. ““I cannot think of anyone more deserving of this honor. Professor Murphy creates a course environment conducive to active learning and works tirelessly to ensure the success of his students, both inside and outside of the classroom.
Prof. Murphy believes that it is especially important now to engage in the learning process by meeting students where they are—and by approaching it together. “Through this ongoing, collaborative effort by the outstanding faculty, administrators, and staff of St. John’s University, our students and alumni continue realizing remarkable success across campus, throughout the New York metropolitan area, and around the globe,” he said.
