New Board of Trustees Member Elected

Rev. Michael M. Nguyen, C.M.

Rev. Michael M. Nguyen, C.M. ’90CBA was recently elected to the Board of Trustees of St. John’s University. Fr. Nguyen left his home country of Vietnam in 1980 at age 13. After a harrowing sea journey, he landed in the Philippines and eventually reached the United States, settling in Philadelphia, PA, the following year.

After attending a weekend retreat at St. Joseph’s Preparatory Seminary (which he would eventually attend), in Princeton, NJ, he made the decision to join the Congregation of the Mission. Upon graduation from St. Joseph’s, Fr. Nguyen came to St. John’s to study for his undergraduate degree in Accounting. 

Since ordination, he has held a variety of positions within the community, including three terms as Consultor for the Eastern Province of the Congregation of the Mission, and Pastor of St. Mary’s Church in Greensboro, NC, which has been staffed by the Vincentians since the 1930s. 

For the last six years, Fr. Nguyen has served as Rector and Formation Director at Miraculous Medal House, the house of study at the college level for the Eastern Province of the Congregation of the Mission, located in Jamaica Estates, NY. 

Fr. Nguyen received his degree in Canon Law from Catholic University and serves as a tribunal judge for the Diocese of Trenton, assisting Catholics seeking annulments. For the last several years, Fr. Nguyen has served on the Board of Trustees of Niagara University, also founded by the Congregation of the Mission.

New Board of Governors Members Elected

Mark P. Kritzman

Mark P. Kritzman ’73CBA, Founding Partner and Chief Executive Officer, Windham Capital Management, LLC, was elected to the St. John’s University Board of Governors last May. 

Mr. Kritzman earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from St. John’s University’s College of Business Administration (now The Peter J. Tobin College of Business) in 1973, and a Master of Business Administration degree from New York University’s Stern School of Business in 1977. 

A Senior Lecturer in Finance at the MIT Sloan School of Management, Mr. Kritzman has written more than 70 peer-reviewed journal articles focusing on investing and risk management. He is the author of several books, including Puzzles of Finance and The Portable Financial Analyst. 

A dedicated philanthropist, he serves on the Advisory Board of youth development organization SquashBusters and the Board of Trustees for the Sheffield Chamber Players in Boston, MA. With his wife, Elizabeth H. Gorman, Mr. Kritzman established the Revere Street Charitable Foundation, which provides financial support and grants to numerous worthy organizations.

Mr. Kritzman received the Spirit of Service Award, given to alumni who embody St. John’s University’s Catholic and Vincentian values in their life and work, at the 22nd Annual President’s Dinner last November. He previously served on the Board of Advisors for The Peter J. Tobin College of Business.

Eleni Lagos

Eleni Lagos ’99CBA, ’00MBA was appointed to the St. John’s University Board of Governors last May. Ms. Lagos earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Accounting from the College of Business Administration at St. John’s University (now The Peter J. Tobin College of Business). 

Ms. Lagos is a Certified Public Accountant, and joined accounting firm BDO USA LLP last May. Previously, she served as a Tax Partner at EisnerAmper LLP, a Director at PricewaterhouseCoopers, and a Tax Senior Manager at Ernst & Young. 

She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants. Ms. Lagos also served as an Adjunct Professor of Intermediate Accounting at Queens College, and the Tax Executives Institute—an organization dedicated exclusively to the professional needs of the in-house tax community worldwide—regularly solicits her counsel.
