Student-Athletes Score Big in Academics

St. John’s student-athletes earned a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.59 during the Fall 2020 semester, highlighting another successful year in the classroom for the Red Storm despite the ongoing challenges presented by the COVID-19 crisis.

“Our student-athletes demonstrate resilience and an ability to adjust to an expanding new digital learning environment,” remarked Mike Cragg, Director of Athletics. “It is a true team effort made by our student-athletes and amazing work from our academic services and support group led by Eric Rienecker, Associate Athletics Director for Student Services, along with Ray Howell ’83C, ’90GEd; Frank Peluso ’13Ed, ’15GEd; Alexandra Sachs ’20GCCPS; and Alexandra Tannous ’15C, ’17GCPS, his staff of associate and assistant directors.”

During the Fall 2020 semester, 88 percent of student-athletes achieved a 3.0 GPA and 69 percent of student-athletes achieved a 3.5 GPA.

Women’s softball and men’s tennis led the way for the Red Storm this semester, posting the two highest team GPAs of 3.87 and 3.85, respectively. St. John’s saw 53 Johnnies earn a perfect 4.0 GPA for the Fall 2020 semester, as all 17 Red Storm teams notched a cumulative GPA of 3.27 or higher for the semester.
