Professor William Murphy, J.D., from the Division of Criminal Justice, Legal Studies, and Homeland Security in the Collins College of Professional Studies, was honored by the Long Island Business News as the Leadership in Law Educator for 2019 during a ceremony held in Woodbury, New York on November 21. Leadership in Law recognizes individuals in the legal profession whose leadership, dedication, hard work, skill, tenacity and excellence has had a positive impact on Long Island. Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas served as the Keynote Speaker at the event.
As this year’s Educator honoree, Professor Murphy was specifically recognized for teaching the practice of law to provide a model of professionalism that prepares students for success in law practice, business, public service, teaching and more, and whose performance and dedication is considered exemplary by students and peers.
“This award is not mine alone,” said Murphy. “Honestly, this recognition was earned collectively by the remarkable students, faculty, administrators, and staff of St. John’s University and the Collins College of Professional Studies with who I am blessed to interact on a daily basis. It is through their hard work and commitment that I am inspired to innovate, mentor, and serve. They are the true leaders and it is their dedication and persistence that challenge me to continuously expand the boundaries of impactful legal studies education and achieve our shared goal of student development and success.”
Held annually, the Long Island Business News Leadership in Law Awards additionally recognize honorees in the categories of Counsel, Partner, Associate, Nonprofit, Sole Practitioner, In-House Counsel, Unsung Hero, and Lifetime Achievement.
