More than 180 alumni, family, and friends joined representatives from St. John’s University’s Office of Alumni Relations for their seventh annual alumni Oktoberfest on Saturday, October 5. It was a beautiful autumn day to celebrate this German tradition.

“The annual Oktoberfest continues to be a family-friendly event, with many alumni bringing their children and parents to enjoy an afternoon of German culture,” said Rino Grzinic ’77SVC, Director of Development. “It was a pleasure to see old friends—and an opportunity to make new ones.”

The group gathered at Plattduetsche Park Restaurant and Biergarten in Franklin Square, NY, a spacious, open-air venue offering delicious authentic Bavarian specialties, including Wurst on a bun, Schnitzel sandwich, potato pancakes, Bavarian pretzels, German potato salad, and Bavarian ales.

“I enjoyed seeing all of the alumni that came before and after me having a great time with family and friends on a beautiful afternoon filled with food, music, and fun,” said Kim Cozza Checkers ’93CBA.

Throughout the afternoon, Johnnies and their families enjoyed live music by Johnny Koenig and German dance performances. They also purchased raffles and T-shirts, with all proceeds supporting student scholarships.
