Tobin Distinguished Alumni Honored at GAHW 2019

Five graduates of The Peter J. Tobin College of Business were honored at the College’s annual Distinguished Alumni Award Ceremony and Reception on Friday May, 31.

Distinguished Alumni Awards were presented to John P. “Jack” Clarke, Esq., ’55CBA, ’57L, Peter J. Micca ’89CBA, and Sal Restivo ’85CBA, ’89MBA. Distinguished Young Alumni Awards were given to Daria L. Coney ’13CPS, ’15MBA and Gabe San Diego ’14TCB.

Professor Clarke, the Chair of Tobin’s Department of Law, has devoted his entire career to St. John’s University. As Director of Alumni Relations in the 1950s and 1960s, he became the principal fundraiser for the construction of Marillac Hall, Newman Hall, and the Main Library at St. Augustine Hall. Since becoming a full-time faculty member in 1967, Professor Clarke has taught an estimated 10,000 business students, many of whom have continued on to become judges, public servants, internationally recognized lawyers and legal educators, as well as many current and former members of the St. John’s University Board of Trustees and the Tobin College of Business Board of Advisors.

Among his many honors is his St. John’s Spirit of Service Award in 2014 and the John J. Murphy Award for distinguished service to the public, the profession, and the rule of law from the Alumni Association of St. John’s School of Law in 2019. Professor Clarke has established The Professor John P. Clarke Scholarship at Tobin College, for students in need who show academic promise, and The John P. Clarke Scholarship at St. John’s School of Law. He also donates to St. John’s Public Interest Center, which provides a summer fellowship program for students interested in public interest law.

Mr. Micca ’89CBA is a Partner at Deloitte & Touche LLP, where he leads the national industry practice for health plans across audit and enterprise risk services. He has experience in assurance and enterprise risk management; corporate and regulatory governance and compliance; internal audit; security, privacy, and cybersecurity; and mergers and acquisitions. Mr. Micca works with strategic, operational, and private equity buyers and initial public offerings.

He serves on the Board of Advisors of The Peter J. Tobin College of Business at St. John’s University and of the Executive Business Program at Columbia University.

Mr. Restivo ’85CBA, ’89MBA is currently a Partner in the Risk Management–Independence practice of Ernst & Young LLP, focused on the financial services industry as it relates to US Securities and Exchange Commission and American Institute of Certified Public Accountants independence matters. Prior to joining the Independence Practice, Mr. Restivo spent 27 years in Assurance, serving financial services institutions in the banking and capital markets sector.

He currently serves on the Board of Advisors of The Peter J. Tobin College of Business at St. John’s University and on the Board of the Tomorrow’s Hope Foundation, as well as the Kellenberg Memorial High School Advancement Committee.

Ms. Coney is Senior Associate Director of Development at La Salle Academy. In this role, she manages all facets of the marketing, public relations, and fundraising events for the high school’s community, including the annual million-dollar fundraising gala.

An active member of the St. John’s community, Ms. Coney serves as Secretary of the Tobin Alumni Association, sits on the Graduates of the Last Decade (GOLD) Committee, and proudly attends basketball games and alumni events whenever she is able.

Mr. San Diego ’14TCB is an Associate at The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc., covering capital planning and analytics in New York. His team is responsible for managing and implementing the firm’s regulatory capital strategy, calculating and forecasting capital risk metrics, and conducting semiannual macroeconomic stress tests. He serves on the firm’s Finance People Development Committee Junior Board and the Finance Campus Recruiting team.

Prior to joining Goldman Sachs, he served as the Co-Chair of the Finance Analyst Program at Morgan Stanley.

The program was preceded by the Tobin CEO Lecture on "Artificial Intelligence, Analytics, and Automation" by Frank L. Kurre '84CBA, Managing Director and Global Account Management Leader at Protiviti Inc.
