Dr. Brian K. Harte is the recipient of the ‘2019 Sam Houston State University Award’.

Dr. Harte is a Professor of Criminal Justice, Homeland Security and Legal Studies within the College of Professional Studies.

The Sam Houston State University Award, founded in 1987, is a competitive award granted through the Texas Probation Association and Sam Houston State University. The award denotes outstanding contributions to scholarship within the field of community corrections. 

For over a decade, Dr. Harte has researched and published extensively to increase awareness, knowledge and understanding of issues impacting the criminal justice system, including, but not limited to: juvenile delinquency, antecedents of adult criminality, human trafficking, criminal justice leadership decision-making, shaping organizational culture, over-representation of minority populations within the criminal justice system, juveniles and capital crimes, and the effects of war, terrorism, economics, and technology on criminal justice leaders.

Through his research, Dr. Harte has drawn awareness to issues that impact both the field of community corrections and the criminal justice system as a whole.

The award will be presented at the 2019 Spring Texas Probation Association Conference in San Marcos, Texas on April 16, 2019.
