Every year, for one week each November, several countries around the world celebrate entrepreneurship week organizing various events that promote entrepreneurship activities and connect aspiring entrepreneurs to possible mentors, collaborators and sources of funding. This global event is powered by the Kauffman foundation and supported by leading organizations in more than 170 countries, with thousands of affiliated partner organizations.

To celebrate entrepreneurship week in 2018, the College of Professional Studies joined two international initiatives. Associate Deans, Dr. Luca Iandoli and Dr. Emese Ivan travelled to Europe, in the Netherlands, with four students to participate in the Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) activities sponsored by Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences. Throughout the week of November 12-18, both faculty and students participated in many GEW learning activities and knowledge sharing that fostered not only entrepreneurial thinking but opened new opportunities for international collaborations.

Dean Katia Passerini travelled to North Africa to participate in the Egypt Entrepreneurship Summit and spoke about how digitalization enhances inclusiveness and innovation, a topic that is of high importance for nations rich with young talent and creativity and are eager to grow their economy by launching new ventures. The summit, themed “Bridging the Gap: International and National Best Practices” brought together leaders from academia, the international public and private sector, local entrepreneurs and financiers, as well as aspiring and established entrepreneurs from many different industry sectors. It culminated with a pitch competition that focused not only on the viability of the business ideas, but also their sustainability and impact in improving the global development goals, a very important theme for the event organizers such as the International Labor Organization (ILO) and the GEN-Egypt Network.
