Joe DiStefano, author of 111 Places in Queens That You Must Not Miss, recently shared why he believes the borough is one of the most exciting destinations in New York City at a book discussion held on St. John’s University’s Queens campus on June 2 during Grand Alumni Homecoming Weekend.

“I am so passionate about Queens, everything from the food to music, and the fact that it is the birthplace of religious freedom, as well as American punk rock,” he said. “There is a lot of history here. I want people to develop a deeper appreciation of Queens, whether you are from the borough or have just put down roots here.”

Mr. DiStefano was joined by Clay Williams, the book’s photographer. The book features more familiar places such as jazz icon Louis Armstrong’s house, which is located in Corona, and some newer locations such as the gaming shop The Geekery HQ in Astoria.

“As a fellow member of the Queens Tourism Council, I was excited to have Joe participate in the Alumni Weekend because St. John’s is one of the largest employers in Queens, and I feel like it’s important to demonstrate our presence in this very diverse borough,” Susan Damiani ’87CBA, Director of the Office of Gift Planning.
