New Trustees Announced

St. John’s University welcomes four new members to its Board of Trustees.

Working with President Conrado “Bobby” Gempesaw, Ph.D., the 28-member Board of Trustees provides the overall direction for the University, developing the policies, procedures, and strategies that advance St. John’s mission and values as a Catholic and Vincentian institution of higher education.

Margaret A. D’Angelo ’70Ed

chaired the centennial leadership committee for The School of Education’s 100th anniversary. She and husband Peter ’78MBA, ’06HON are longtime benefactors of the University. Their support resulted in the construction of the D’Angelo Center on the Queens campus and the establishment of the Peter P. and Margaret A. D’Angelo Chair in the Humanities at St. John’s University.

Anita Gomez-Palacio ’65Ed, ’89PD

is the retired Executive Director of Operations, Council of School Supervisors and Administrators (CSA). She enjoyed a long and distinguished career in public education in the City of New York, serving as a teacher and principal in addition to heading CSA (the executive bargaining unit for administrators in New York City’s schools). She is former President of the St. John’s University Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa.

Very Rev. Stephen M. Grozio, C.M., Vice Chair

was elected Provincial Superior for the Eastern Province of the Congregation of the Mission (Vincentians) this year after a long career ministering to immigrants in Michigan, Philadelphia, New York City, and on Long Island. He previously served as Provincial Treasurer and Director of the Hispanic Apostolate of the South Fork of Long Island.

Tarik S. Turner ’98C

is Senior Vice President, US Sales Trading–Institutional Equities, Macquarie Capital (USA), Inc. He previously served as a Director of Sales Trading at Ticonderoga Securities. A former Senior Vice President at Friedman Billings Ramsey, Mr. Turner also worked at Bear Stearns. After graduating from St. John’s, where he was a standout guard on the men’s basketball team, he spent several years as the Red Storm’s radio analyst as well as an analyst for SNY-TV (NY), St. John’s television network, and FOX Sports Interactive Media, LLC. Mr. Turner continues to serve as a television analyst.
