SJU Men's Tennis Team Captures BIG EAST Championship

Monday, April 28, 2014

The St. John’s men’s tennis team made its first appearance in the BIG EAST Championship Finals in 19 years a memorable one as the top-seeded Red Storm defeated No. 3 DePaul, 4–1, to claim its first conference title since 1991 and the third in program history.

“This team had a passion to win the BIG EAST from the very beginning of the season,” said Eric Rebhuhn, head coach, Red Storm tennis and 2011 BIG EAST Coach of the Year.  “They will rewarded by representing the University in the NCAA Tournament in a few weeks.”

The win gave Rebhuhn his first conference championship in 17 years as a head coach, including 13 at helm of SJU. The Red Storm now awaits its tournament seeding, which will be revealed during the NCAA selection show, which will be streamed live on at 5 p.m. on April 29. This year’s tournament will take place at the University of Georgia in Athens, GA and will run from May 15–26.
